Rambleon - Home Page

Welcome to ‘rambleon.org.uk’, this site has been set up for walkers, ramblers, cyclists, mountain bikers and lovers of the countryside as a free resource to help you enjoy some of what England and Wales has to offer

This Rambleon website will soon be closing – I have published this site since 2007, promoting walking and cycling, particularly listing Walking Festivals in England and Wales but there have been constant hacking attempts, daily brute force attempts to get access and on one occasion they were successful but I was able to deal with it and remove the content they injected. I can no longer justify the time and energy to keep the site going, it has been a labour of love, it was never intended to be commercial and has been run at my own expense, sad that it has come to this but the core of it will live on in a cut down (disposable) site – ramble-on folks - Ramblerman

Use them or lose them

Independent Outdoor and Cycling shops are in decline again, rising costs and the bargain basement prices of online stores is forcing many to close. These local stores are not just a shop they provide local information, personal service and local networks of like minded people, when you next shop online and find what you have been looking for don’t press the buy button take the details pop into your local Independent Shop and ask them to price match it. Looking for something special – ask them to find it for you. They need to make a living to stay open, support them before it’s too late.
We have pages listing online stores and these include many Independent shops – so find a bargain but support the independents

The Kit and Clothing Page

I created this page as a listings of kit, clothing and equipment suppliers from large multiple stores, major brands and small independents with online shops competing to offer the best kit and the best deals – see if you can find a bargain - the page also has a dedicated twitter feed which I use to highlight offers, promotions, competitions and products from a wide range of suppliers and manufacturers.

Walking Events and Festivals

Since 2007 I have done my best to provide a comprehensive listing of Walking Events and Festivals for England and Wales - unfortunately I believe that others have been profiting from my efforts and using the details I publish on their sites - therefore I have decided to stop the annual collection and update of walking festivals and instead I will add a link to an alternative listing

Cycling Events

The cycling events list draws on the major events organisers and some of the smaller ones to give cyclists a good chance of finding an event to suit them.

If you know of any others events that I've missed please use the contact form to let me know.

Walking Guides, Organisers and Walking Holidays

I have put together a page listing specialists who provide guided walks, walking holidays etc, - a guide can often give you much richer experience from your walk, with local knowledge and maybe a few tails to tell along the way.

National, Regional and other Trails and Routes

The Trails and Tracks page has a listing of routes with links to sites giving more details, many have route descriptions - there is hopefully something for everyone from long distance to a family stroll

We have been asked and are happy to point out, that England’s Camping Barns are remaining open and welcoming guests, despite the fact that they are no longer supported by the YHA. This link gives details of the Ex YHA Camping Barns in England & Wales that will continue to operate

This site supports the work of the Mountain Rescue organisations in England and Wales - They give up their time and train very hard in order to rescue those in trouble on the hills and mountains.

Please be sensible about walking, check the forecasts, ware and take the appropriate gear, don't cause the rescue teams to put their lives at risk for yours.
